Is SOAP API deprecated?

For a website I use the developer SOAP API (endpoint soa-gw.canadapost.ca) to get shipment rate estimates (ratings) and to create shipments. Is the SOAP API deprecated and should I switch to the REST API?

Hi iiiijjjjiiii,

To clarify, the legacy Developer Program supports both REST and SOAP APIs using XML, whereas the new Developer Portal API supports REST APIs only and uses JSON.

While the legacy Developer Program has been deprecated, we recognize that many shipping solutions have not yet migrated to the new Developer Portal API. In some cases, there may not be a suitable alternative available for the platform being used. As a result, customers may still enroll in the legacy Developer Program and obtain API credentials during this transition period.

If you require API keys for the legacy Developer Program, please contact our Technical Support Desk at 1-877-376-1212 to have a support ticket created. This step is necessary to verify your identity before credentials can be issued.

Please be prepared to provide your Canada Post customer number when you call.

Many thanks,
The Developer Program team
